Perge(Parga)

Perge is an ancient city on the southwestern of Turkey. It is located in the east of Antalya. It contains about 15 kilometres of ancient ruins. These ruins date back to Bronza Age. Perge is also well-known for the worship of Artemis. Artemis Temple stands on a hill outside the ancient city. For the honour of Artemis, annuall festivals were celebrated. Moreover, Apollonius, who was a great mathematician, worked and lived here. Perge is also called as Perga. Perga was an important centre of Christianity. The city kept its status as a Christian centre in the 5th and 6th centuries as well. Perga is today an archaeological site and a tourist attraction. There a lot of excavations and discoveries since 1946.
