 The carobs are from the family of  Ceratonia siliqua. They grow on a flowering evergreen tree. Ther are also used as ornamental trees in the gardens and landscapes. In the Mediterranean, carob pods are often used as animal food and in times of famine, as "the last source of [human] food in hard times". They are very nutritious. Carob bars are also an alternative for chocolate bars. Carob pods are also used as syrup and drinks. They are really delicious.
